The conference was organized by the scientific research centre of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, IPIS. Most renowned participants of the conference were: the Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki, the world-wide leading holocaust-revisionist from France, Prof. Robert Faurisson, the famous Austrian holocaust-defence lawyer Dr. Herbet Schaller, the US-American freedom activist David Duke, the British freedom activist Lady Michèle Renouf, the French civil activist Serge Thion, the German-Australian revisionist Dr. Fredrick Töben, the German-Swiss freedom activist Bernhard Schaub and many others. May 13, 2009 food freedom activist Max Kane was subpoenaed by the Wisconsin Department of Justice to give testimony before the assistant Attorney General Phillip D. Ferris. Amongst other information, the subpoena demanded the names of farmers who were believed to be supplying the interstate movement of unlicensed raw dairy foods from Wisconsin into Illinois. On June 18th Kane appeared at the scheduled deposition, spoke about the United States and Wisconsin Constitutions, and left without giving testimony. During the State’s investigation Kane submitted an open records request which produced nine pages of inter-department e-mail communications between the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture Trade and Consumer Protection and Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The e-mail communications divulged information about scheduled “Raw Milk” monthly conference calls where eighteen government agents from FDA, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin collaborated on both Federal and State agendas to shut down buying clubs and the sale and consumption of Raw Milk throughout the United States. On August 3rd of that same year, the Wisconsin Department of Justice filed a legal action against Kane seeking a court order and relief through the compelling of Kane’s testimony. During the latter 1960s Turner was a leading student activist and institution-builder– involved in both the movement for Black Studies, and assuming a directorship of the Africana Studies and Research Center at Cornell University. His experience as an activist shaped his understanding of the imperatives of institutional autonomy, student empowerment, community involvement and curricular self-determination in the making of the Black Studies project. He has trained hundreds of students who have gone on to further expand the development of Africana studies. Furthermore, Turner’s scholarship has been foundational to the theoretical development of the discipline. This panel will highlight the multidimensional ways in which James Turner’s leadership, activism, research and mentorship has been critical to the evolution of Black/Africana Studies– from the Black Power/Black Consciousness movement through its endurance as an institutional force in the production of knowledge.
